I am the owner/operator of this small business and care deeply about the return on all of my investments. By using me as a service provider, whether it be for website development or on-site computer and networking work, you can rest assured that you will recieve professional and personal service tailored to your business needs.

The idea behind hiring a professional is that they should transfer ownership of the web to you site once it's completed; you can manage it however you wish. However, you may want to consider utilizing that professional for maintenance based on the answers to the following questions: Do you have an employee with the ability or comfort level to learn a new technical skill. Will the site updates be so rare that you may not remember how when it comes time to make the change? Do you want to take the time to make the updates to your site or use that time to expand your business? This is something we will address when deciding how to proceed with the development of your website.

Currently I do not. I am a small business and operate during normal business hours. However, if you require server maintenance or software upgrades that would disrupt your ability to do business during the day, I can make arrangements (at no aditional cost) to address them in the evening or over the weekend.

The reality is that there are multiple factors that determine results returned by search engines, namely: Your site may be too new. The search words you used are too broad. Just because your site is on-line, that doesn''t mean it ranks very high. To be found by search engines, your website must be "optimized". Please see the Search Engine menuitem for more details on this issue!

In most cases, I suggest a timeline of 4-8 weeks for your new site to be completed and on-line. A custom web site requires care and planning to get it right. The timeline for completion is very much dependant on how well-prepared the client (i.e. text written, photos taken, and various other details worked out). Why does it take so long for you when others can have me online in one day? There are services out there that use mass-produced templates with little flexibility or customization; if this sounds like it fits your business model, I would suggest investigating those options! However, a custom web site allows the planning necessary to ease of future maintenance and expansion. Remember, if your website is not easy to maintain, you are going to have to pay someone to do that for you or risk having it sit and become outdated.

The reality is that there are multiple factors that determine results returned by search engines, namely:

  • Your site may be too new. Search engines don't actually scour the Internet at the time of your request. Most search engines use spiders or bots that only visit a site every so often. The information it finds is then stored and only displayed when you search for it. If their spiders have not visited your site recently, it only displays what it found the last time it visited your site.
  • The search words you used are too broad. For example, if you are looking for an orthodontist in Annapolis, MD who takes Delta Dental Insurance, you are not going to find what you want by typing "orthodontist Maryland" for your search. You need to be more specific with your search terms; for example, to find the above orthodontist you would want to type "orthodontist Annapolis Maryland Delta Dental".
  • Just because your site is on-line, that doesn't mean it ranks very high. The way a search engine determines how to your site is by the number of other websites that link to you; a link is like a vote. This votingĀ system allows a search engine to decide what site comes up first, second, third, or fiftieth. To be found by search engines, your website must be "optimized". Search engines categorize websites by relevant keywords (text that clearly describe the product or service). For example, to find a specific company that designs websites in or around Annapolis, that website might include the keywords "website designer" and "Annapolis" throughout the text portions of the website.

The simple answer is NO. Flash is not something I currently offer as to often it is overused on web sites. However, as you can see from some of my portfolio sites, Flash-like content can be added as an enhancement to the design (i.e. a scrolling gallery of products or services that you offer).

The bottom line is that old browsers were designed for the old internet. As the technologies of the internet have changed, so has your browser's ability to take advantage of those technologies. The latest version of the browser you are using will offer you the best surfing experience available and will display the content on websites the way their designers intended them to be viewed.

One of the reasons for hiring us for your website design project is to ensure professionalism without learning how to write code or graphic design. I will only insist that you be as involved as you want, especially in the areas of how you want the website layout to appear, in addition to what exactly you want the text portions of the site to say (i.e. about your company, your staff, and your products/services).
